30 songs: A donkey named Eeyore is his friend

This entry is part 8 of 10 in the series 30 songs

A bit of a curveball here, in the 30 songs department, but it follows on nicely from last week’s look at fatherhood. Today’s topic is “a song you know all the words to” and I’ve picked something I’ve sung many, many times over the last two and a half years: Winnie the Pooh.

Ever since she was tiny, this has been a great song to calm Heather down and/or send her to sleep, and it seems to work well with her sister too. I can’t remember what came first, Gemma singing it to her or the dream-show that played it, but whichever it was, it worked and still does to this day.

So much so, in fact, that a rendition of this is now part of Heather’s bedtime routine, being sung after Winkle (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). She’s even started to join in sometimes, although I’m not convinced she knows all the words!

The weird thing is, although she loves the song, and has a few Pooh related toys and books, I don’t think Heather’s actually seen any of the cartoons. There is a new Winnie the Pooh film coming out in a few weeks, though, so maybe we could rectify that and take Heather on her first ever cinema trip. If, that is, we’re feeling incredibly brave…

  1. I wouldn’t worry – I hear the soundtrack is pretty decent… might give you something else to sing along to!

  2. Susan Mann says:

We took Tyler to see Winnie the Pooh at the cinema he loved it. I used to have to sing Twinkle Twinkle to Lucas over and over again to get him to calm down it was the only thing that worked, especially during the night.

Twinkle Twinkle is, I think, Heather’s absolute favourite to SING, but Winnie the Pooh was what always worked best to calm her down. And yes, it sometimes was over and over and over, so I can relate!

We’ve not been brave enough to take her to the cinema yet. Might have done if Winnie the Pooh was out over the summer like I thought, but apparently July 15th is the US date, and it was out here in April!

I’m sure there will be something soon…
